Short Sanshin History:
The Sanshin is a wonderful Okinawan instrument with a fabulous history, believed to have been brought to Okinawa from China in the 16th century. The instrument started out being used by classical musicians in the Rykuyuan Courts to entertain dignitaries and royalty.
Later, the Sanshin made its way into the hands of the common people of Okinawa and folk songs began to emerge. The Sanshin has a unique relaxing sound, as well as an upbeat festive sound.
